The latest test results are in – and they make great reading for everyone who chooses a CTEK battery charger.

The seriously knowledgeable experts at Parkers, one of the UK’s biggest car reviews and advice websites, put a whole host of battery maintenance chargers through their paces and have just released their findings.

Their verdict is that the pick of the bunch is the CTEK MXS 5.0 – and CTEK chargers took three of the top four spots.

The MXS 5.0 won the Editor’s Pick, the gold medal of the tests, with the experts describing it as “one of the best battery chargers and trickle maintainers in the business which costs under £100”.

The Parkers team found MXS 5.0 “easy to operate” and “reassuringly easy to monitor too”. It was tested on a classic Mercedes, keeping the battery topped up so the engine could be started every two weeks with no issues.

Also on the winners’ podium is CTEK’s MXS 7.0, winning The Best Specified Trickle Charger. Parkers said: “It still has all the clever tech the 5.0 has but in a larger, slightly more comprehensive package that suits batteries of larger cars, caravans, campervans and even boats.”

The review praised the simple navigation through modes and said: “It's built to the same standard using premium materials, as per CTEK's whole range, can handle extreme temperatures on both ends and will charge AGM batteries.”

Our talented all-rounder, the portable CS FREE also made it onto the top list, as Best Solar Trickle Charger. CS FREE, said Parkers, “is the most unique in our guide and is a big step up in terms of abilities, offering four major functions in this one portable unit”.

When combined with a solar panel, CS FREE offers truly off-grid battery charging, maintaining and even acts as an adaptive booster to revive a flat battery. It can also be used as a power bank for your devices such as phones and laptops.

Parkers’ expert reviewer tested CS FREE on the completely flat battery of a 1980s Audi 80. After 15 minutes the car could be started. The reviewer wrote: “I was impressed at the CS FREE's performance in this scenario and would 100% rely on it to provide some life back into a dead battery on any car, old or new.”

Parkers started life more than 50 years ago as a guide to used car prices and now provides hundreds of thousands of valuations to the general public every month, alongside reviews of new and used cars and the products to keep them on the road.

So we’re very pleased that such a trusted and independent organisation loves our battery chargers. We’re so proud of our products and love it when others like them too.

Road trip ready: how to avoid a flat battery ruining your summer escape

There’s nothing quite like heading off in a motorhome during summer. Longer days, spontaneous stopovers, coastal roads, mountain campsites and evenings spent outdoors – it’s what motorhome life is all about. But summer adventures also place extra demand on your vehicle’s battery system. Fridges run constantly, lighting stays on later into the evening, phones and devices are always charging and many motorhomes sit unused between trips.
