Mild-Hybrid-Fahrzeuge sind Fahrzeuge, die sowohl mit einem Verbrennungsmotor als auch mit einem kleinen elektrischen Generator/Motor ausgestattet sind, der den Motor beim Anfahren, bei der Fahrt oder bei starker Beschleunigung unterstützt. Die 48-Volt-Batterie, die das Hybridsystem versorgt, wird durch die kinetische Energie des Fahrzeugs beim regenerativen Bremsen aufgeladen. Der Generator fängt die Energie beim Ausrollen und Bremsen auf, um sie zu speichern und für den Neustart des Motors und die Beschleunigung zu nutzen. Auch wenn das elektrische System durch regeneratives Bremsen aufgeladen wird, muss die 12-V-Batterie geladen werden. Sie benötigen das 12-Volt-System für fast alle Funktionen Ihres Fahrzeugs, wie z. B. für die Klimaanlage, das Licht, das Öffnen der Türen, das Radio, die Fenster usw.  

Mild-Hybride werden in der Regel mit einem 48-Volt-System betrieben, um den Anlasser und die Antriebsunterstützung zu betreiben. Dieses System versorgt Komponenten, die sonst vom Motor angetrieben würden, und ermöglicht so einen effizienteren Betrieb des Fahrzeugs. Der integrierte Starter-Generator ISG ist eine zusätzliche Energiequelle für Überholvorgänge oder zum Beschleunigen, fungiert aber auch als Anlasser für das Start-Stopp-System und als Generator zum Laden der eigenen 48-Volt-Batterie.  

Solche Systeme bieten dem Motor eine sanfte elektrische Unterstützung, die jedoch nicht ausreicht, um das Fahrzeug ausschließlich mit Strom zu betreiben; der Großteil der Energie für das Fahrzeug stammt nach wie vor aus dem Kraftstoff. Mild-Hybride sollen bis zu 15 % effizienter sein als herkömmliche Verbrennungsfahrzeuge, die zu 100 % mit Kraftstoff betrieben werden.  

In den meisten Fällen genügt ein Batterieladegerät, das der 12-V-Kapazität des Motors entspricht, um die 12-V-Batterie zu laden. In manchen Fällen benötigen Sie jedoch mindestens 20 Ampere, um die Batterie aufzuladen, z. B. mit dem CTEK PRO25S Batterieladegerät, das bis zu 25 Ampere liefert.
