There are a few things to consider when choosing car battery chargers. You should first be aware of your car's battery capacity - this is given in ampere-hours or ampere-hours (Ah) - and engine size - in many cases there are different battery charger cars for different sizes of car batteries. For example, a smaller battery found in motorcycles and classic cars can be charged with a lower power car battery charger compared to a larger high performance car - your car battery charger 's output power needs to increase with engine size. Make sure the one you plan to buy is robust enough for your car's engine.
Battery type is the second factor. There are car battery chargers that are designed to work with lead-acid and/or lithium batteries. When it comes to lead-acid battery chargers, some of them may only work with certain types of batteries, such as wet-cell, gel and AGM batteries.
You can look in your car's manual or under the bonnet to find out the size, type and chemistry of the battery.
Although the primary purpose of car battery chargers is to charge your car battery, it's worth thinking about battery maintenance too and there are certain features and functions that can actually help extend the life of the battery by up to three times. So think about maintenance. If you don't have specific maintenance schedules for batteries on vehicles that are stored for long periods of time, you run the risk of overcharging or undercharging the battery. The reconditioning mode is good for restoring seemingly dead lead-acid batteries, and a special wake-up mode for lithium batteries is important if the battery has been switched off due to built-in battery management systems.
When choosing which model to buy, you should therefore take into account how you will use these car battery chargers. We've put together a summary of some of our best-selling car battery chargers to help you choose the right car battery charger.
CTEK PRO25S is a cutting-edge, adaptable, and incredibly efficient 25A model of car battery chargers and power supply that was created with the demands of the automobile industry in mind. CTEK MXS 3.8 is an excellent addition to CTEK's car battery chargers. It is a handy charger for the smaller car battery but also for other vehicles such as motorcycles and snowmobiles. Batteries between 1.2Ah and 85Ah are compatible with the MXS 3.8 microprocessor-controlled 7-step battery charger and maintainer. Features include a desulfation program to recondition and optimize battery health, a "Snowflake" program for charging on colder days, and battery testing to determine if your battery can accept and hold a charge. In addition, it has adjustable charging schedules for smaller (motorcycle) and conventional (car) batteries. CTEK's proprietary float/pulse maintenance modes make it the perfect car battery charger for seasonal vehicle storage.
The MXS 5.0 TEST & CHARGE is an innovative model in the car battery chargers category that also makes it easy to test the battery, starter motor and alternator. Batteries in between 1.2 Ah and 110 Ah can be used together with MXS 5.0 TEST & CHARGE. To give you a complete picture of the health of the battery and vehicle charging system, its test function provides you with three easy-to-use programs to evaluate battery voltage, starting power and alternator performance. The MXS 5.0 TEST & CHARGE includes an automatic desulphation program, a unique RECOND mode for reconditioning severely depleted batteries and CTEK's revolutionary float/pulse system.
The revolutionary CTEK CT5 TIME TO GO model of car battery chargers and maintainer lets you know when your device will be fully charged. Because the CT5 TIME TO GO accurately predicts the remaining charge time in hours, you can plan your day around your battery charge. It also lets you know when you can try to start your car without a fully charged battery. Three maintenance and charging programs are available for CT5 TIME TO GO: AGM, Recond and Normal. It will not over or under charge your battery and is fully autonomous, allowing you to connect it directly to your battery indefinitely if needed. The CT5 also has a built-in temperature sensing function. Alligator clamps and loops are included in the kit.
