CASE STUDY | EV Charging | CTEK & Eways help Bring towards an electric vehicle fleet

Case Study | EV Charging

Mail and distribution company Bring is on an exciting electrification journey, together with independent charging operator Eways. The goal is to electrify Bring’s whole vehicle fleet, which consists of both smaller delivery and long-haul vehicles. To support this journey, and make sure that Bring has a safe, future-proof and reliable charging solution, the Eways solution included CTEK Electrical Vehicle Supply Eequipment (EVSE).

Bring initiated their electrifying journey with home deliveries transportation from local distribution hubs to the end customer. This is normally undertaken in smaller vehicles up to 3.5 tonne, owned by local drivers.

Göran Fermbäck, customer manager at Eways, explains, “The vehicles get loaded in the morning, and we need them to be to be fully charged for a full day of deliveries. As vehicles are left at the distribution hub overnight, Bring needed several charge points able to charge with a lower voltage during the night.”

Bring was also looking for charge points at the loading bays, to charge vehicles during the day

“CTEK’s chargers have enabled a safe and reliable charging solution that live up to the organisation’s requirements”, continued Göran Fermbäck.

Bring currently has 60 AC-charge points, 30 for charging over night and 30 for charging the vehicles at the loading docks. This network of chargers is made up of CTEK CHARGESTORM CONNECTED 2, dual output units and CTEK’s market-leading NANOGRID CGC 100 load balancing solution All of the chargers are part of CTEK’s load balancing system NANOGRID, crucial for the management of the charging infrastructure.

The charging power is 22kW for each outlet, which means 44kW per charge point.

Some of the vehicles are driving two rounds every day and need fast charging between the loads, in the middle of the day. In the summer they are also driving long haul vehicles between the terminals.

Göran Fermbäck said, “These need DC-charging with a charging power of 150 kW to decrease the charging time and not increase the time spent on the journeys. We have also installed twelve charge points for DC-charging. At a total, we have approximately 110 charge points for Bring all around Sweden.”

The installations have been achieved in several facilities with different complexity

“In Västberga in Stockholm, we have installed a new electricity grid system as well from a new supplier. The installation of the charge points was easily done with the help of our partner Zälls el”, explains Göran Fermbäck.

Göran Fermbäck concludes, “In Västberga we have also installed a system where the CTEK-chargers are “cooperating” with the DC-chargers to manage the whole energy consumption and adjust it to the available power in the area. We are doing this together with Ellevio. The fact that Bring continuously order new installations is a receipt of their satisfaction with our services!”.
