CTEK Introduces Autocharge and Wireless Load Balancing in Latest Firmware Update 

CTEK has rolled out a new firmware update for its CHARGESTORM® CONNECTED 3 (CC3) charge point, introducing Autocharge – a seamless and secure way for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to start charging with zero touch. 

With firmware version 4.9.1, CC3 now supports Autocharge, allowing drivers to simply plug in their vehicle and begin charging automatically, provided their car is registered with the charging network. If payment details are already linked, no additional authentication is required. This makes charging faster and more convenient, particularly for businesses, fleet operators, workplace charging, and public charging networks. Autocharge also enhances security by ensuring that only authorised vehicles can use the charge point. 

To activate Autocharge, drivers must pre-register their vehicle or authenticate once using an RFID card or mobile app. The feature operates using the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6 and later, with CC3 supporting the latest OCPP 2.0.1 version. 

Enhanced Installation with Wireless Configuration 

The 4.9.1 firmware also introduces a major improvement for installers – wireless configuration over WiFi. This enables installers to set up and commission CC3 units remotely using a mobile phone or tablet, eliminating the need to physically connect to the unit. Additionally, the update provides more flexibility with customisable current limits per outlet, allowing charge point operators to optimise power distribution based on site-specific needs. 

Wireless Load Balancing with NANOGRID™ AIR 

Another key upgrade is the introduction of wireless load balancing, now available for both CC3 and its predecessor, CHARGESTORM® CONNECTED 2 (CC2), through NANOGRID™ AIR. This system dynamically manages power distribution among multiple charge points, ensuring the total energy consumption stays within the building’s available power capacity. 

By connecting to a smart energy meter via a local WiFi network, NANOGRID™ AIR continuously adjusts the charging output depending on real-time energy demand. If overall electricity usage increases, charging power is temporarily reduced to prevent overloading. Once demand decreases, more power is automatically allocated back to the EVs. This wireless solution eliminates the need for complex wiring, reducing both installation time and cost. 

For larger installations requiring additional capacity, NANOGRID™ LOCAL PLUS provides scalable load balancing across multiple charge points, ensuring an efficient and future-proofed charging setup.

Firmware 4.9.1 is available for internet-connected CC3 and CC2 charge points and can be downloaded via ctek.com/support/software-firmware or through the backend system of the charging installation.
