You are probably visiting this page because you don’t know what battery type (or chemistry) you have in your vehicle. You are not alone! We are often asked how to find this out, and as we told you when we returned the results on our charger selector tool, if you know what battery type you have, our charger selector tool can help you identify a product that exactly matches your vehicle, battery type and budget.

Where will i find my vehicle battery?

Sometimes finding the battery on your vehicle can be a challenge! In modern vehicles where space is limited you might find that the battery isn’t under the hood where you would expect it to be! In most car, truck & RV models you will find the battery under the hood in one of the front corners. In many cases however, you will find the vehicle battery located in the trunk, or under a seat to balance weight distribution. For motorcycles, boats and other leisure vehicles you should be able to easily locate the battery. If in doubt however, your vehicle handbook should specify the location of the battery.

How do i find out what type of battery my vehicle has?

You should be able to find out what type of vehicle battery you have, by checking out one of these locations. You are looking for a label that tells battery chemistry such as lead-acid, Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM), Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB), Gel, lithium-ion.

Battery label:

Locate the battery on your vehicle (see below for information about how to find your battery). Look for a label or markings on the battery case itself.

Battery terminals:

Take a look at the battery terminals as they may have labels or markings.

Owner's manual:

Information should be provided about the type of battery installed on your vehicle. It could be sections related to the battery, vehicle specification or maintenance.

Vehicle make and model:

If you cannot locate the battery, you can research vehicle make, model and year of manufacture online. You could try the manufacturer's website or maybe ask a question on an owners' forum who may be able to confirm battery type.

Ask a professional:

If you're still unsure about the battery type, you could visit an auto parts store or ask a professional mechanic.

Hopefully you’ve now got all of the information you need to find out which is the best charger for you. Why not take a look at our handy selector tool, that can help you choose the right charger for your needs, from our award-winning range - together we can maximize your battery performance!
