THE CHALLENGE
Harley-Davidson® Korea understands the importance of making sure that the motorcycle battery is charged and ready to go, even if the vehicle has been kept in storage for a long period of time. They wanted to educate their customers on the importance of regular battery charging and maintenance, especially when the motorcycle wasn’t in use.
“We wanted to highlight the importance of battery maintenance during the sales, and vehicle demonstration process”
- Logix Lee, Gangnam Branch Manager, HARLEY-DAVIDSON® KOREA
Harley-Davidson® Korea decided that this invaluable, education process should start in the showroom and was looking for a way to draw attention to the battery, to highlight the importance of battery maintenance during the sales, and vehicle demonstration process.
THE SOLUTION
Harley-Davidson Korea was introduced to the CTEK Indicator eyelet. An accessory that uses a simple ‘traffic-light’ system, with flashing LED lights, to show the battery charge status. This clear visual indication could then easily start a discussion on battery charging. The customer would see the flashing light on the indicator and enquire what it was for, enabling the sales person to engage in a conversation about the need for charging. Every bike in the showroom was fitted with a CTEK Indicator eyelet.
The introduction of the Indicator eyelet solution would also enable showroom staff to monitor the condition of the battery and deliver a charge when it was needed – keeping batteries in a good condition, and ensuring that the sales team could demonstrate all of the functions of the motorcycle.
ABOUT THE INDICATOR EYELET (56-629)
Using a simple LED traffic light system, the CTEK Indicator eyelet is permanently attached to the battery, providing a visual indication as to the state of a battery, without needing to be plugged into a mains power source.
The Comfort Indicator’s flashing green light reveals that the battery is fully charged and does not need attention. An yellow light indicates a good state of charge but advises that the battery may need attention in the short term. A red light indicates that a battery needs to be charged immediately, not only to be able to start the vehicle but to avoid the danger of the battery being permanently damaged through excessive discharge leading to sulphation – the biggest battery killer.
Featuring CTEK’s unique Connect system, it to be attached to all CTEK 12V chargers up to 7A, permitting easy access to the battery for it to be charged.
GREEN means the battery charge is more than 12.65V. OK! No need of charging.
YELLOW means the battery charge is between 12.4 and 12.65V. It’s time to start thinking about charging the battery.
RED means the battery charge is below 12.4V. It’s definitely time to charge the battery.
THE RESULTS
The CTEK Indicator solution is now fitted to every motorcycle that enters the Harley-Davidson Korea showroom. It has enabled sales staff to engage in conversation with customers as a natural part of the sales process.
“This has increased our sales of battery chargers, but most importantly it has increased our customers knowledge of the need to take care of the battery all year round.”
- Logix Lee, Gangnam Branch Manager, HARLEY-DAVIDSON® KOREA
It has also increased battery charger sales, with around 80% of all Harley-Davidson motorcycles in Korea now being sold with the CTEK indicator eyelet and MXS 5.0 battery charger.
This solution contributed to Harley-Davidson Korea’s strong commitment to customer satisfaction. Customers really appreciated this invaluable advice to help them protect against a flat battery.
Harley-Davison Korea is helping their customers to maximize battery performance to get the very best out of their motorcycle.
